FILM RATING CERTIFICATES

As part of our license, we enforce BBFC age ratings - U, PG, 12A, 15 and 18. You and/or your party may be required to show photo ID before admission is granted. All films come with detailed content advice called BBFCinsight. Find this for the film you’d like to see at www.bbfc.co.uk.

U rating

Films rated ‘U’ should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. However, it is impossible to predict what might upset a particular child. Not all U films are aimed at children but may be rated U because they contain no material likely to offend or harm. Legally a child of any age may view a U film.

PG rating

Films rated ‘PG’ are suitable for general viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for younger children. A PG film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. Legally a child of any age may view a PG film.

12A rating

For films rated ‘12A’, any under 12s must be accompanied by an adult. Films rated 12A are not recommended for children below 12. Please read the BBFCinsight guidance to see if the film is suitable for your child. This will tell you about the key aspects of the film like violence, language, sex, and horror. Children aged 12 and over may see a 12A film unaccompanied.

15 rating

No-one under 15 is allowed to see a 15 film at the Cinema. We may lose our license if children under 15 are admitted to a 15 rated film.

No theme in a 15 rated film is prohibited, provided the treatment is appropriate for 15-year-olds and any dangerous or illegal behavior is not endorsed or promoted by the film. We may ask for photo ID for 15-rated films – see below for the forms of ID that we accept.

18 rating

Films rated 18 are for adults. No-one under 18 is allowed to see an 18 film at the Cinema. We may lose our license if children under 18 are admitted to an 18 rated film. No theme is prohibited at 18. Adults are free to choose their own entertainment within the law, so it is possible some themes tackled at 18 may be offensive, even to some adult viewers.

IDENTIFICATION

For age-rated films and concessionary tickets, we may request to see photo identification. Students in paid or further education will need to produce a valid college/university.

We accept valid passports, valid driving licenses, and photographic ID cards bearing the PASS logo (e.g. Citizen Cards).
